Irwin Cine X-Plate
The one-plate solution for cart versatility without the setup
Camera assistants face the same frustration every time: is your cart set up for a head or a camera? If it’s the wrong one, you’re swapping mounts. X-Plate eliminates that dilema. It mounts both a Mitchell head and a universal 120mm touch & go plate receiver permanently to a single piece – no bolting, no adapters, no time wasted on set.
The touch & go docks with a satisfying ratchet click and releases clean via lever. Heads mount exactly as they would on any standard Mitchell fitting – rigorously tested across old and new, and there’s no mystery about compatibility.
Why the Irwin Cine X-Plate Works
One mount, two functions – Mitchell head on one side, camera on the 120mm touch & go on the other. No swapping plates mid-shoot, no adapters collecting in your kit bag, no drama. You’re ready for whatever the shot calls for.
Satisfying mechanics – the ratchet click is real, the lever release is smooth, and the engineering shows. This isn’t a compromise – it’s built to work the way you work.
Professional materials – CNC machined in the UK from 6082 aluminum alloy, 304 stainless steel, and aerospace grade brass. Every surface feels intentional. It’ll outlast three feature films and still lock solid.
Cart-compatible – mounting holes follow standard spacing used by major cart manufacturers. Drop it on your cart, bolt it down, and move on. No custom drilling, no surprises.
The Problem It Solves
Most carts force you to choose: set up for a camera or a head. You bolt one, you unbolt the other. On a busy set, that’s wasted time and wasted takes. The X-Plate sits in the middle – literally. Mitchell head mounts one way, 120mm snap plate mounts the other. Both live on the same plate. Both are always ready.
For operators pulling focus on rigs that shift between head-mounted and camera-mounted configurations mid-day – or between setups – this saves the back-and-forth. For cart operators managing multiple ac rigs, it means one less piece to swap between carts.
Build Around the Irwin Cine X-Plate
Pair the X-Plate with:
- Irwin Cine Spinner for 360° rotation under the cart (mounts beneath, X-Plate sits on top). Rotate through a doorway without pulling the camera, or dial in a smooth pan without moving the tripod.
- Touch & Go Plate, the camera plate that lives on yer camera. Drop in, click, done. Works with all standard quick release systems.
- Your existing Mitchell head – no compatibility headaches, just mount it and go.
Compatibility Note
The Irwin Cine X-Plate works with all large-format quick release systems compatible with 120mm snap plates. If you’re unsure about your specific cart or head, contact us first and we’ll sort it out. Compatibility questions are better than assumptions.
