Steadicam Custom Post, built to your diameter, length, material, and end spec. free shipping.
Most Steadicam operators eventually outgrow the post that came with their rig. Either the length isn’t right for their build, the diameter doesn’t match their bracket, or the stock post just isn’t the material they want hanging their whole rig from. The Clean’s Steadicam Custom Post is the answer to all of that, a USA-machined post built exactly to your spec, in the diameter, length, material, and end configuration you actually need.
Thirteen verified five-star reviews. One reviewer called it “truly the best.” Another said it’s “a great product that every steadi op should have.” That’s the bar this thing is built to.
⚠️ No returns on custom orders. Every post is made to your configuration, double-check your specs before ordering.
Build yer post, here’s what you’re choosing for your Steadicam Custom Post:
Material & Color
Aluminum posts are available in 8 anodized colors: Black, Red, Blue, Gold, Green, Orange, Gun Metal, and Pink. Stainless steel is also available, select it where the color dropdown says “Stainless Steel.” SS posts are not anodized; they ship as raw stainless. Hugo C. reviewed the SS option: “Stainless steel ones feel very solid, obviously a bit heavier but nothing in comparison to the peace of mind they offer.” If you’re running a heavy rig or just want the strongest option available, stainless is worth the extra weight.
Solid or Tube
Solid posts are stronger. Tubes are lighter. This is a tradeoff only you can make based on your rig weight and how you fly. The Steadicam community has had plenty of discussion on this topic, the short version: solid aluminum and stainless steel are the safest bets. Tube aluminum is an option, but use it at your own risk.
Post Diameter
Four options: 15mm, ½″, ⅝″, and ¾″. Match this to your bracket. The most common sizes for standard Steadicam rigs are ⅝″ and ¾″. The ½″ is for smaller rigs. The 15mm option fits rigs that run 15mm rod-spec posts. If you’re not sure which your rig takes, check your bracket or offset spec before ordering.
Post Length
Available in 2″ increments from 4″ to 20″, that’s nine standard lengths. Pricing is $10 per inch for aluminum and $15 per inch for stainless steel. Need an odd length? Order the next size up and note your exact length in the order comments. If you want a 5″ post, order the 6″ and note it, we’ll machine it to spec.
End Options
This is where it gets specific. Three choices:
- None, standard flat end, no modification.
- Threaded for Zephyr, a ¼″-20 threaded hole machined into the bottom of the post for operators running Zephyr arms. The Zephyr arm threads directly into this end, no adapter needed.
- Hollow for docking pin, the post end is left open so you can hang the post directly on the arm pin of your dock. If you store or dock your rig with the post mounted on the dock’s arm pin rather than removing it, this is the end spec you want. You also choose which end gets the modification, arm side or gimbal side, depending on how your rig is configured.
Every post ships with one locking pin included.
Need different diameters at each end? That’s a different product, check out the Steadicam Reducer Post for that configuration.
Replacement hardware is available directly from McMaster-Carr: airplane pin, flathead screw, and set screw, links are in the product description if you ever need to reorder.
Steadicam Custom Post Covered by the lifetime repair policy. USA-machined, send it back any time, fixed at a modest price no matter the age.
Frequently Asked Questions about the Steadicam Custom Post:
Can I get a length that isn’t listed?
Yes. Order the next size up (in 2″ increments) and leave a note at checkout with the exact length you need. We’ll machine it to your spec.
What’s the difference between solid and tube posts?
Solid posts are stronger and recommended for heavier rigs or any situation where you want maximum rigidity. Tube posts are lighter but not as strong, aluminum tubes in particular should be used with caution on heavy builds. Stainless steel solid posts are the strongest option available.
Which diameter do I need?
Match it to your bracket. Most standard Steadicam rigs run ⅝″ or ¾″. Smaller rigs often use ½″. The 15mm option is for rigs spec’d for 15mm rod-diameter posts. Check your offset bracket spec if you’re unsure.
What does “hollow for docking pin” mean?
It means the end of the post is left open (hollow) so you can hang the post on the arm pin of your dock. Some operators prefer to keep the post on the rig when docking rather than removing it, the hollow end makes this possible. You choose whether it’s the arm side or gimbal side end that gets this treatment.
What does “threaded for Zephyr” mean?
A ¼″-20 threaded hole is machined into the specified end of the post for operators running Zephyr arms. The Zephyr arm threads directly into this hole.
Can I return a custom post if it’s wrong?
No. Custom orders are non-returnable. Double-check your diameter, length, material, solid/tube, and end spec before placing the order. If you’re unsure, reply to your order confirmation or use the Contact page and we’ll help you sort it out before it goes to the machine.
